It is very important to recognize the symptoms... especially in children because of juvenile diabetes cases. These can be severe if left undetected. A friend of mine has a young daughter who got juvenile diabetes. Her blood sugar shot to dangerous levels (over 800) and she almost died. She recalled being extremely thirsty every day for about a month.

If it were not for my father being diabetic I never would of thought any of those symptoms would have been a sign I was diabetic. Fortunately he educated me on the symptoms and I was able to get treatment. Although not as fast as I may have wanted.

Before I clinically found out via a blood test my weight dropped down to 120 pounds and I was consuming roughly 4 liters of water during the night while I was sleeping.

Now that I am diabetic I educate anyone I know that may have similar symptoms. It never hurts to see a doctor just to make sure. The sooner you know the sooner you can take care of your self.

Hi,

I just wanted everyone to know about the preventive health screening services offered by Life Line Screening. Diabetes does often go undetected for too long. By signing up for a screening, you can learn if you're at risk or have diabetes. Knowledge is half the battle to prevention and treatment.

In addition to the symptoms you've listed in your article, people might consider a family history of diabetes as a warning sign. A DNA test can reveal whether you are at risk or not due to your genes as discussed in this article:
http://dnatestingguides.com/2008/05/dna-testing-and-diabetes/
While there is not guaranteed way to prevent the onset of inherited diabetes, the diagnosis is pre-symptomatic allowing you to change your life style to reduce your chances of developing diabetes.
